Wednesday found us docked at Mykonos
This island is the playground of the rich and famous!!
Lots of the movers and shakers come here to relax and party!
Not the best picture as the sun wasn't in the best position, but you can see the city in the background
We started out walking the streets
First we came to this church
Church of Panagia Paraportiani
It began construction in the 1400's and wasn't finished until the 1700's
Completely white washed, it's a beautiful background for pictures again the beautiful blue skies
Very famous place for models to have their picture taken
And while we were there, a Dior model was having her picture taken
The lady in black!!
From there we walked to "Little Venice"
Some interesting history here. These homes are right along the waterfront and their first levels aren't lived in. Back in the day, the pirates would bring their "booty" to these homes and store it on the first level. They would sell it and split the proceeds with the owners.
Next are the windmills and these have a history too
They were used as flower mills!! The wind drove the mills and crushed the grain inside
They are huge - and are now Hotels!!
We walked through the city and the bougainvillea were exquisite
From here, they took us by boat to the Island is Delos
This island was inhabited first in the Bronze Age
and was an island dedicated to the God Apollos
It fell into ruins and was rediscovered and excavation started around 1873
It was all very interesting! SO much history!
From there we returned to our ship
Our pillow gift is a beautiful case
And our steward left us a "gift"
These were on our rooms!
Come back tomorrow to see our tour of Athens!!
