Technique Masking AND Reverse Masking

Here's another card here I used the Technique Masking.  I first cut out the big butterly from the Beautiful Butterfly Bigz Die.  I added to the card front with removable adhesive and sponged around it.  I then used the "negative" part of the cutout fro the butterfly - added it to the front of the card so just the butterfly showed and stamped in the butterfly

Technique Tuesday Masking

Here's another "masking" card I made.  Love the way it turned out and it was SO easy!!

Stamp Set: Lovely as A tree (WM 115026, CM 127793, page 84), Teeny Tiny Wishes (115370, CM 127802), Up, UP and Away (WM 122755 CM 122757)

Card Stock:  More Mustard, Whisper White, Early Espresso

Ink:  Early Espresso, More Mustard

Punch:  1 1/4" circle (119861, page 184)

Tools: Brayer (102395, page 179)

I first punched 1 1/4" circle from scrap of card stock and adhered it to the Whisper White card stock with removable adhesive and then brayered the Whisper White piece using More Mustard on the top and Early Espresso on the bottom I removed the circle and stamped the trees.  Assembled the card and WOW done!!

June Technique Tuesday Masking and Reverse Masking

We had fun for our Technique Tuesday class.  We did masking and reverse masking.  I did some research on the internet and found a number of different ideas on what "masking" is. 

I LOVE, LOVE the card we made in class as it's SO classic.

Stamp Set:  Zoo Review (WM 122197, CM 122199, page 92)

Card Stock:  More Mustard, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla

Ink: More Mustard, Always Artichoke

Embellishments:  Always Artichoke 1/2" Seam Binding (121000, PAGE 172)

Punch:  1 1/4" Circle (119861, page 184). Black-Stazon

Big Shot:  Square Lattice Embossing Folder (119976, page 189); Top Note Bigz Die (113463, page 193)

First step is to run the Very Vanilla and Early Espresso through the Big Shot with the Top Note Die.  I trimmed off the Very Vanilla piece.

Next step is to punch out a 1 1/4" circle (using a scrap of any card stock) and adhere it with removable adhesive to the top left of the top note.  Now sponge over the top part with More Mustard and the bottom with Always Artichoke using sponges and a circular motion

When that is done remove the circle and stamp the giraffe with Black Staz-on

Run the Crumb Cake through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Embossing folder.  Mount that on the card base of More Mustard.  Tie the Always Artichoke Seam Binding around the stamped piece and adhere to the Early Espresso Top Note and to the front of the card. 

Stamp your sentiment - excellent for Father's Day!!  I left mine blank as I already have a Father's Day card!!

Ribbon Treatment Swatch Book Part 2 May Club Projects

This is a continuation of yesterday's post with five more Ribbon Treatments.  If you haven't seen yesterday's post you can here

We made these little Swatch Books with samples of 10 different ribbon treatments.  Here's the last five.

 

Folded Embellishment

Cut a 3” piece of ribbon.  Place a mini glue dot in the center.  Fold to form a “V”.  Attach the folded piece to back side edge with mini glue dot. Cut the tails at an angle or with a “dove tail”.

Loose Tie

Cut a length of ribbon 2” longer than the project.  Tie a square knot in the center…right over left, then left over right.  Fasten tails to the back side of your project.

 

This is so simple and easy to do at the last minute – especially if you forget or change your mind!!

 

Stamp Set:  Perfectly Penned (WM 122890, CM 122892, page 132)

Card Stock:  Sahara Sand, Not Quite Navy, Cajun Craze. Whisper White, Well Worn DSP (not retired)

Ink:  Not Quite Navy

Embellishments:  Vintage Trinkets (118764, page 175), Denim Jean Ribbon 3/8” (125053, page 173)

Punch:  Modern Label (119849, page 183)

Woven Ribbon

Punch holes evenly about ¼” apart in a line.  Use a rectangular or ¼” circle.  Punch an EVEN number.   Cut ribbon 1” longer than project.  Feed ribbon into 1” hole from the TOP side.  Weave in and out.  Attach tails to the back side.

Ink:  Old Olive, Real Red

Embellishments:  Tempting Turquoise ¼” Grosgrain Ribbon (now retired, but replaced with Pacific Point ¼” STITCHED Grosgrain Ribbon, 126878, page 173),  Basic Rhinestones (119246, page 175)

Punches: :  Scallop Oval (119856, page 184), Large Oval (119855, page 184) Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack (118309, page 183)

Big Shot:  Apothecary Accents Framelits (127003, page 191), Fancy Fan Embossing Folder (127751, page 189)

 

Fringed Ribbon

Cut a length of ribbon about 3”.  Snip off the “welting” along ONE edge.  Separate strings.  Leave a small piece of UNCUT ribbon at the top.  Attach to project with a glue dot and cover with a small punched piece of CS, brad or button

This was new to me and I love it.   Fun for kids, graduation cards, birthday cards and so many more! 

Here are some close-ups so you can “get the picture” 

Start with about 2 ½ - 3” of ribbon

Using a SHARP pair of scissors (I totally recommend our Craft Scissors 108360, page 180), cut off one side welting (or seam)

Then start “fraying” out the strings until you reach the other side.

Clip off the other “seam” and the hairs left being careful not to cut your frayed ribbon.

You are left with a nice “fringed” embellishment – attach to your project with a mini glue dot and cover the top with a brad, button or punched out flower!!

Stamp Set:  Perfectly Penned (WM 122890, CM 122892, page 132)

Card Stock:  Primrose Petals, Baja Breeze, Whisper White, Silver Glimmer Paper (124005, page 160), Patio Party Designer Series Paper (126916, page 165)

Ink:  Baja Breeze

Embellishment:  Rose Red ¼” Grosgrain Ribbon (can be done with any ribbon)

Punch:  Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack (118309, page 183)

Brad Bow

Pry apart the prongs on your chosen brad.  Cut a 10” length of ribbon.  Fold your ribbon into a loop having the “loop” on the left side and the “tail” on the right.  Bring the “tail” over the “loop” to the left side.  Scrunch up the center of the bow between the brad prongs and bring the prongs over the ribbon.  Adjust as necessary.

This is a quick, easy way to add brads and ribbon.  Just make that first loop and then bring the other side over – scrunch up the center and add your brad (which you have pried apart).  Larger brads with great for thicker ribbon

Ink:  Pool Party, Daffodil Delight, Calypso Coral

Embellishments:  1 ¼” Daffodil Delight Grosgrain Ribbon, Brights Flower Brads (now retired)

Punch:  Fancy Flower (118073, page 185), ¾” circle (119873, page 184), 1” circle (119868, page 184)

Big Shot:  Elegant Bouquet Embossing Folder (115964, page 189)

Ribbon Treatment Swatch Book

As part of our club meetings for May, we did Ribbon Treatments.  We all made little "swatch books" to attach our ribbons samples to.  I thought I would share these with you with samples and instructions.  Check out my previous posts for a couple of different ribbon applications here and here.

Ribbon Treatment Swatch Book

(Thanks go to Cherie Hunt for the original idea of the swatch book) 

Each page has the ribbon treatment attached to it and the instructions are added to the back.  They are pretty self-explanatory.  Where I need pictures, I’ll add them.  When done, you can punch a hole in the corner and tie them all together with either a ring or with ribbon!!

 

I am including a sample card with each ribbon treatment

 

Attached Knot

Tie a piece of ribbon leaving enough to cut even lengths on either side of the knot.  Attach to your project with a glue dot

 

Stamp Sets:  Papaya Collage (WM 126610, CM 126612, page 75), Teeny Tiny Wishes (WM 115370, CM 127802, page 133)

Card Stock:  Soft Suede, Lucky Limeaid, Whisper White, Floral District Designer Series Paper (126919, page 163)

Ink:  Lucky Limeaid, Soft Suede

Embellishments:  3/8” Ruffled Ribbon Lucky Limeade (122977, page 172), Naturals Designer Buttons (127554, page 176) 

Ribbon treatment is tied once in a knot and attached to front of card with a mini glue dot!!

Bottle Bow

Cut about 11” of ribbon.  Wrap around a glue stick or a Stampin’ Mist bottle.  Tie a knot.  Slide off, Snip the loop at an angle.  Tape the longer pieces around your project.  Perfect tie every time!!

 

This is one I had never tried before and really love it – we always have our mister for the Stampin’  Scrub close – just tie that knot around the bottle, snip and attach to your card!!   I will have to “tell” on myself with this card,  I saw a similar idea with the beautiful polka dotted paper – I looked and looked for that paper in the catalog – literally every page.  And then realized it was the stamp set!!  DUH!!  So we can have that beautiful dotted “paper” in any color!!  Love it!!

Card Stock:  Whisper White, Midnight Muse, Cajun Craze, Comfort Café Designer Series Paper (126898, page 163)

Ink:  Midnight Muse

Ribbon:  ¼” Whisper White Grosgrain Ribbon (now retired, BUT the NEW replacement is absolutely stunning!! ¼” STITCHED Grosgrain Ribbon – it has white stitching down the middle  Item # 126877, page 173)

Big Shot:  Fancy Fan Embossing Folder (127751, page 189), Apothecary Accents Framelits (127003, page 191)

 

Craft Bow & Rabbit Ears

With your right hand, make a loop and hold it between your thumb and index finger.  Wrap the long tail up and over your fingers.  Then push the piece into the open loop.  Adjust the tails.

Sorry this looks a little “worn”  - been in my box and got flattened.

 

There are a number of different ways to make this bow.  Rabbit ears work for me, but you can also make a loop then bring the long tail over your thumb/fingers and through the open loop.  Adjust the tails as necessary.

Here’s a picture of the “Rabbit Ears”  

First make two loops as in picture

Place right loop over left loop and then fold right loop around and through “hole” you have made

 

Clear as mud?  Try it, it really isn’t hard.  Adjust loops as  desired

 I used the Seam Binding ribbon on this card and love the way it turned out.  I wove the ribbon through the holes in the Lace Ribbon Border and then attached the bow at the top

Card Stock:  Whisper White, Night of Navy, Cherry Cobbler

Ink:  Midnight Muse

Ribbon:  ½” Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding Ribbon (120922, page 172)

Punches:  Lace Ribbon Punch (not retired), Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border (119275, page 183)

Big Shot:  Apothecary Accents Framelits (127003, page 191), Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder (117335, page 189)

Double-Back Bow

Punch 2 holes ¼” apart.  Cut ribbon about 6”. Insert ribbon tails into front holes toward the back side.   Crisscross ribbon tails and “feed” both back through the holes to the FRONT side.  Cut tails as needed, but always at an angle

I used to do these all the time until SU stopped carrying the double rectangle punch.  So this time I used the Crop-A-Dile and punched out two 1/8” holes.  You start with putting both ends of your ribbon through the holes from front to back – then bring them up the opposite sides through the front!

Card Stock:  Whisper White, Soft Suede

Ink:  Raspberry Ripple

Embellishment:  Rose Red ¼” Grosgrain Ribbon (retired)

Punch:  Scallop Edge Border (119882, page 183), Postage Stamp (122344, page 182)

Faux Knot

Cut length of ribbon needed and tape to the back side of the CS.  Keep ribbon on the spool and tie a knot around this piece.  Then cut.  Ribbon will slide to any area of the first ribbon

I think this is really cool as your knot will slide across your card and you can have it anywhere you want it!!

In this card I slid it to the right – but it will move to any placement!!

Father's Day Card - May Club Project - Ribbon Treatment

I saw this idea on Stampin' Connection, and thought it would make a wonderful Father's Day card plus be another "Ribbon Treatment" for our class.

 

 

Stamp Set:  Delightful Dozen (WM 122650, CM 122652, page 140)

Card Stock:  Early Espresso, Very Vanilla, Not Quite Navy, Well Worn Designer Series Paper (no longer available)

Ink:  Early Espresso

Embellishments:  1 ¼” Grosgrain Ribbon Soft Suede 14 “ and 2 ½” (no longer available), Naturals Designer Buttons (127554, page 176), Linen Thread (104199, page 173)

Punch:  Extra-Large Oval (119859, page 184) 

Instructions:

• Assemble card base as follows:  Early Espresso, Very Vanilla, Not Quite Navy.  Add Well Worn DSP to the two pieces of Early Espresso and attach to Not Quite Navy (see picture)
• To make the “tie”, fold over 1 ¼” Soft Suede Grosgrain ribbon.  Fold “cut” ends again and cut to make “V” in bottom of tie. 
• Add a piece of Sticky Strip Tape to the middle of the 2 ½” piece of ribbon.  Fold both edges to the middle and adhere.  Add another small piece of sticky strip to the end.  Scrunch up larger piece and add around tie and adhere with sticky strip.  Add to front of card with mini glue dots.
• Stamp sentiment and punch out with Extra-Large Oval Punch.  Adhere to card front with dimensionals.
• Tie linen thread through button holes.  Attach button with mini glue dot

Supplies:

(not retired), Subtles Designer Series Paper Stacks Pink Pirouette dotted

Ink:  Soft Suede

Embellishment: 
Crumb Cake ½” Seam Binding Ribbon (about 10”) (122332, page 172), Basic
Pearls (119247, page 175)

Punch: Extra-Large Oval (119859, page 184)

Big Shot:  Lots of
Tags Sizzlits (114508, page 191)

Tools:  Sticky  Strip (104294, page 177)

 

Instructions:

• 
  Fold Pink Pirouette Card Base.
• 
  Add Beau Chateau and Pink Pirouette DSP Paper Stack dotted to the Soft Suede.  They will overlap a bit. 
• 
  Run a piece of Sticky Tape down the center of the above piece.  Starting at the top, add Crumb Cake ½” Seam Binding for an inch and then fold up a loop (about ½”).  Continue adhering the seam binding to the sticky strip making an additional two loops. Add the ribbon around the top and bottom to hold in place (either with Sticky Strip or snail adhesive. 

  

  

• 
  Stamp “Just For You” from Tagtastic and cut out with Extra-Large Oval Punch. 
  Apply to Pink Pirouette Lots of Tags piece and to the front of your card under the “loops” with dimensionals.
• 
  Apply Basic Pearls below sentiment

I wanted to share that our new Granddaughter is here!!  We are SO excited.  Brooklyn Ember Farring was born yesterday, May 31st at 4:32 p.m.  She weighed in at 8 lbs 5.5 oz and is 19 inches long.  Her mommy is a little bitty thing and did SO well!!  Even the doctor was surprised at how big Brooklyn is!  Daddy, Mommy and baby are doing fine!!
