I'm not sure how much I've mentioned it, but we are going to be grandparents soon - and when I say soon, could actually be TODAY!! Our son's wife was due on Sunday the 27th and she should have it very soon. Needless to say, we are very excited!! They don't know what it is yet, so that's even MORE exciting.
For her baby shower, I made this diaper cake. Had never made one before and it was SO fun.
It was really easy to make - you just roll up each diaper with a rubber band, then make a "circle" of diapers and use a larger rubber band. Then add another circle round until you get the desired size, holding all together with larger rubber bands (I found them at our local variety store).
I added an empty paper towel cardboard to the center of the first layer and then built the 2nd layer around that, making it a row smaller than the bottom layer. And the same with the top layer. I then cut some card stock and the designer series paper (Walk in the Park - retired last year) and added it around each layer to hide the rubberbands.
I just stamped the little figures and attached them. The larger animals are made from Jackie Topa's Cute Critter class. I used a retired set called Forest Friends as they match exactly Sam and Julie's nursery!!
This project was absolutely a hit at the shower - it took betwen 60 and 70 diapers to make. Here are a couple more pictures!
I will post when the baby is born!!
