Technique Tuesday for April Polished Stone

This month for Technique Tuesday, we focused on Ink Refills.  There are SO many uses (other than reinking your stamp pads).  Did you know you can refill your Stampin' Write Markers?  You can carefully remove the large dib (with tweezers) and add ink to the pen! I actually found a list of over 35 uses for the ink refills.  The two we focused on this month were Polished Stone and Baby Wipe Technique.

Today I will share the Polished Stone - this is an "oldie", but always is impressive!!

Here's the card we made

Supplies:  Ink Refills (3-4) and Frost White Shimmer Paint (116845, page 203)

Glossy White Paper (102599, page 181)

Cotton Balls

Rubbing Alcohol

Instructions

1. Place glossy cardstock on protected surface. Grid paper works fine

2. Place cotton ball in container and add enough alcohol to wet cotton ball

3. Using reinkers drip 2-3 drops of each color on top of wet cotton ball.

4. Dab onto glossy cardstock and twist. Pick up cotton ball and repeat—dab, twist, dab, twist …until entire glossy cardstock is covered. 

Area may look a bit muddy. Let it dry. The colors will show much better once dry. 

Extra Tips:

a. Use a metallic reinker as one of your colors.

b. Use the color wheel to choose coordinating colors

c. Stamp image(s) on top of polished stone in black ink

d. Clear emboss a background stamp on top of polished stone. This is especially gorgeous with the Floral Background Stamp.

Ink:  Island Indigo, Refills:  Island Indigo, Pool Party, Frost White Shimmer Paint

Embellishment:  5/8" Organza Ribbon (114319, page 195)

Punch:  Decorative Label (120907, page 209)

Big Shot:  Finial Press Textured Impression Embossing Folder (117335, page 219)

After adding the ink refills and frost shimmer to the glossy white card stock, we let it dry (just takes a couple of minutes) and then ran it through the Finial Press Embossing Folder. LOVE the effect!

Ink:  Black Staz-on, Old Olive, Daffodil Delight, Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint (116806, page 203)

One recommendation is to use Black Staz-on to stamp on the finished "polished stone".  Classic ink tends to run.

You can't see it, but I actually used the Diagonal Scoring Board and added diagonal lines to the Island Indigo layer!!  More on that to come.....

Happy Birthday with a Cherry on Top

The colors of this card just please me SO much - these were the colors (almost) of our wedding and I'm still in love with them.  I cased this card from Mary Brown - who is a hero of mine (although she doesn't know that LOL).  I love her creativity and quite often case her creations!!

Stamp Set:  Sweet Cake (WM 125490, CM 125492, page 33 Occasions MIni)

Card Stock:  Whisper White, Soft Suede, Sweet Shop Specialty Designer Series Paper (125408, page 33 Occasions MIni)

Ink:  Wisteria, Wonder, Pool Party. Soft Suede

Embellishments: In-Color Designer Printed Brads (122940, page 199), 3/8" Ruffled Ribbon Pool Party (122975, page 194)

Big Shot:  Stripes Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (123128, page 218)

The main image was actually stamped three times - once in Soft Suede, once in Pool Party and once in Wisteria Wonder.  Soft suede is the bottom layer.  2nd layer is Pool Party with the outside frame cut off.  3rd layer is the Sundae in Wisteria wonder.  They are layered together with dimensionals.

Love the colors - did I already say that?  LOL

Purses, Purses, A Women Can't Have too Many Purses

I cased this card with a few changes, but love the little purses - these could definitely be added to anyone's collection!!

Card Stock:  Brushed Gold (102935, page 181), Basic Black, Mocha Morning Specialty Designer Series Paper (122366, page 183)

To make the purse, you cut out the bottom of the cupcake and turn it upside down.  The handle is made by first punch the small oval punch and then the large oval punch (to make a frame).  I then cut it in half and mounted it behind the purse.

Another Cased Card using Sweet Shop Specialty Designer Series Paper

The Sweet Shop Specialty Designer Series paper that is in the Occasions Mini Catalog is just outstanding.  I LOVE purple, so this fits me to a "T" :)

Here is a simple and quick card that would realy cheer up someone who is sick!!

Stamp Set:  Delightful Dozen (WM 122650, CM 122652, page 167)

Card Stock:  Whisper White, Sweet Shop Specialty Designer Series Paper (125408, Occasions Mini page 33)

Ink:  Wisteria Wonder

Punch:  Blossom (125603, page 17 Occasions Mini), 1" Circle (119868, page 212), Corner (119871, page 212), 1 1/4" Square (119865, page 212)

This is a simple, simple and quick card to whip out.  Just change the colors and designer series paper and you have a completely different card.

To make the "flower" you punch out 3 1 1/4" square in the purple Sweet Shop.  Corner round two opposite corners on each one and then line them up with the corners in the center.  Add the punched out Blossom with the 1" circle, stamp the sentiment and you are done!!  Easy, peasy!

Case of Mixed Bunch Get Well Blossom Punch Card

I saw this card and just had to make it.  Just love this "BIG" vase with the flowers!!  The Mixed Bunch Set and coordinating Blossom Punch are SO beautiful!!

The "vase" is the center of the Scallop Oval Frame Bigz die.  I jst cut off the bottom.  I stamp the "Get Well" in VersaMark and embossed with with White Embossing Powder

Swinging "Z" Fold with Apothecary Art

One card I shared recently in a workshop was the Swinging "Z" Fold card.  This is definitely a fun card to make AND has the WOW factor!

And then I made another Monochromatic card in Black and White - I didn't add the embossing folder and wish I had - hard for me to make a "plain" card

Needless to say this card was a quick one without any coloring - just stamped and added to the card front and inside.

Rue Des Fleurs and Attic Boutique plus Matching Envelope

Rue Des Fleurs was the other stamp set we used at our club meetings in March.  We made the Cascading Card here and then this card.

Quilt Cards

Amber, one of my downline, had a class which she invited me to.  We made these quilt cards - this was a class I did sometime ago, and I love the way she used our current Twitterpated designer paper paper.  We made six cards and I can't find two of them!!  Bummer!  They will show up, but I wanted to share these before any more time passes - and they a couple are mising a few pieces, but you get the pictures :)

Designer Cuts Class - Grand Prize

Last Saturday was my Designer Cuts class.  We had 12 people attend and had a great time.  I just love the Designer Cuts Kit because it's so versatile.  You receive 8 cards (4 of each design) and 8 envelopes.  The delicate laser-cut  make them very formal and good for so many occasions: Birthday, Valentine's, Wedding, Sympathy....you name it.  The class consisted of decorating all 8 cards and also making six matching envelopes.  The set comes with 8 Blushing Bride envelopes, so we had to make some to match the other colors I used.
