Have you seen the new Designer Frames Textured Impressions Embossing Folders. They come two to a pack (123130, page 218) and add SO much to your creations.
There is a slight learning curve and I wanted to share what I've gleaned from others and learned by my own experience.
To use these effectively, the method is a bit different than our regular embossing folders. I have seen all kinds of ways, tried all kinds of ways, and now have figured out the best method for me. I watched a couple of videos from France Martin and Sage Kimble and have now come up with a "plan."
First all of, just running the designer frames through the Big Shot using the normal sandwich for the embossing folders leaves creases - the folders are smaller, so therefore when you want to add them to the front of your card, you end up with creases
Can you see the crease? Not good.....so I needed to do something so that wouldn't happen. I needed about 3/16" thickness, so I used the cardboard backing on the Glimmer Designer Series Paper. This cardboard is thicker than on the regular DSP - I cut two pieces 3" x 2 1/4" and adhered them together. The perfect width.
Cardboard backing from Glimmer Paper
Here's the sandwich to run this through your Big Shot
1. Multipurpose Platform set on NO tabs
2. Designer Frame with card stock lined up inside
3. 3/16" card on top of frame lined up over the embossed part. I used some dotto to adhere the cardboard to the frame so it wouldn't slip going through the Big Shot
4. Acrylic Pad (NOTE: you normally use an acrylic pad on top of the MPP and one on top of the embossing folder - with this sandwich, you just use one acrylic pad on top)
And the results
If you would like to add a sentiment in the center with a different color of card stock, you would cut it 2 1/16" x 1 3/8". This fits perfectly in the center of the retangular frame.
For the oval frame, the center is the Wide Oval Punch. And....you can actually emboss in the center of these frames. If you cut two rectangles 2 1/6" x 1 3/8" from the same cardboard and adhere them togehter and/or use your Ovals Original Die (114525, pae 220) to cut two wide oval punches and adhere them together, you can emboss inside these frames.
Here's a sample
To emboss inside a designer frame, first emboss the oval
Next you will put this piece inside of your second embossing folder - I'm using the Flower Garden Embossing Folder (123113, page 219)
1. Multipurpose Platform on no tabs
2. Flower Garden Embossing Folder with Oval Frame inside and lined up on the part of the flower you want embossed.
3. Cardboard on top and centered on the oval frame (I attached it with dotto so it wouldn't slip while running it through the Big Shot)
Run through the Big Shot and you have double embossing
Here are couple of cards I made using the designer frames. Unfortunately I gave away my embossed ones and didn't take a picture - I'll make more and share later
Stamp Set: Teeny Tiny Wishes (115370, page 157)
Card Stock: Pink Pirouette, Soft Suede, Beau Chateau Designer Series Paper (122357, page 184)
Ink: Soft Suede
Embellishment: Pretty in Pink 5/8" Satin Ribbon (117289, page 195)
Punches: Modern Label (119849, page 209), Word Window (119857, page 209)
Big Shot: Designer Frames Textured Impressions Embossing Folders (123130, page 218)
I lined up the chicken in the Oval Frame and ran it through the Big Shot. I used a sponge dauber and outlined the raised oval with soft suede ink.
Here's a closer look at the chicken and focal point
And one more card...
Stamp Set: My Friend (SM 122585, CM 122587, page 139), Floral Fillers (SM 122780, CM 122782, page 141), Elements of Style (WM 118611, CM 122045, page 134)
Card Stock: Pink Pirouette, Crumb Cake, Whisper White
Ink: Soft Suede, Chocolate Chip
Embellishment: Pretty in Pink 5/8" Satin Ribbon (117289, page 195), Basic Pearls (119247, page 198)
Punch: Wide Oval (119859, page 212)
Big Shot: Designer Frames Textured Impressions Embossing Folders (123130, page 218), Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (117335, page 219)
I cut out the oval and embossed it. I used the middle oval on the Original Ovals die (114525, page 220) to cut my oval. I then ran pink pirouette through the Polka Dots embossing folder and stamped "My Friend" on it and then cut it out with the Wide Oval Punch and adhered to the center of the frame.
I stamped the swirls from Elements of Style on the base of the card before I adhered the oval and butterfly!
