My Swaps for Convention

One of the most fun things to do at convention is swap.  Swap what? you say?  Card fronts!  As a demonstrator, we swap cards for even MORE ideas.  I spent quite a bit of time making up swaps to trade, so I thought I would share MY swaps with you.  I have shared some of the ones I received (and will share more), but wanted you to see the ones I made.

First of all I just LOVE the new Wisteria Wonder and how it coordinates with last years color, Concord Crush.  Purple is a favorite and these match beautifully.

Not too hard to figure this one out - the diagonal pieces on Concord Crush are the 2nd largest pennant - SO much easier than trying to figure out the measurements!!  Easy peasy! 

This next card is similar to the ones I made last month in club.  Just love these easy layouts that use up small pieces of leftover designer series paper - hate to waste that beautiful paper.

I used dimensionals to apply the square and also the flower - I used a mini glue dot to add the flower to the center of the blossom bouquet punch!!

Big Shot Emboss Resist with the Big Shot

This is such a fun technique and I learned it first on Patty Bennett's site.  I have used it over and over again and love the look and now that we have more and more embossing folders, it's still a fun technique.

Here's the card I made to show off this technique!

 
You will need:  Big Shot, Embossing Folder and wood frame purchased at the local craft store.  These are found in the "wood" section and so far I have found ovals and rectangles.  I'm still looking for squares, but none found so far

Step 1:  Open up your Multi purpose platform to NO TABS

 

Add a piece of cardboard - I used the backing that comes with the Designer Series Paper.

 
Now flip over TAB 1

 
Step 2.  Here is what the wooden frame looks like

 
Insert you card stock into the embossing folder

 
Align your card stock (not the embossing folder) evenly over the wood frame

Flip this over and, add a standard cutting pad to the top and run through the Big Shot

I sponged around the Oval with a sponge dauber ((102892, page 195) to give it some depth!

For this card I used the Finial Press Embossing Folder with Night of Navy Card Stock and Ink.  The little girl is from the now retired Easter Blossoms Stamp Set and the "Thanks" comes from the Fabulous Phrases stamp set (W 117002, C 120501, page 149)

Big Shot Class Double Embossing

I promised to show you how to do the double embossing using the Textured Impressions Embossing Folders.  Sorry it's taken me so long to get this done.  Hmmm - life does take over sometimes!!

I first saw this technque on Jill Hilliard's blog.  There are lots of blogs now with instructions, and I wanted to share it with you

Here's the card I showed at the Big Class

 

Supplies:

Stamp Set:  A Word For You (W 117032, C 120528, page 158)

Card Stock:  Whisper White, Basic Black

Ink:  Basic Black

Embellishment:  Basic Black 5/8" Satin Ribbon (117285, page 191)

Big Shot:  Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (117335, page 214), Framed Tulips Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (121809)

Tools:  Dotto Repositionable adhesive (103305, page 197)

Instructions:

Step 1.  You will need two pieces of cardboard cut 4" x 2" and 2" x 1".  Every Big Shot is calibrated differently, and with mine, I needed to layer another piece of cardboard over the first piece.  So I used the cardboard that comes in the package of the designer series paper and cut two of the above sizes - then adhered them together with snail (I figure the total is about 1/16" of an inch).  And you will need your two embossing folders

 
 Step 2: You will be using the Multi Purpose Platform set on Tab 2

 
 Step 3:  Insert the card stock you want to use into the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder (the size I used was 5 1/8" x 3 7/8" since I was layering it with the black)

 
Step 4.  Add some Dotto to the cardboard and position it on the OUTSIDE of the embossing folder over the area you want to emboss. It's extremely important to make sure everything is straight - the card stock inside the embossing folder and the cardboard on the top

Step 5.  Add a standard cutting pad to the top of this sandwich and then run it through the Big Shot

 
You now have your first emboss

 
Step 6:  The next step is to place your embossed card stock into the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder.  You will do this on the side of the embossing folder.  If you place your folder with the "Stampin' UP" and "Sizzix" words UP, you will have the embossed tulips up.  I added some dotto to the back of the card stock, so it would not slip when running it through the Big Shot.  Again, it's very important to line up your card stock in the folder so it's even.  Using a ruler will help - also lining up the dots with the edge of the folder helped me get it straight

 
Step 7:  Add your 2" x 1" card stock on top of the embossing folder over the tulips

 
Step 8:  You will have to turn your embossing folder side ways to run it through the Big Shot

 
Step 9:  Add a standard cutting pad and run it through the Big Shot

 
 
You now have your first tulip.  Do the same through for the other side

 
And here is your finished product.  This can be done with any of the other embossing folders - would look great with the Finial Press (115963) , Vintage Wallpaper (120175), Square Lattice (119976) or Petals A Plenty (116824).  Have fun and please share when you make some projects!!
