I have had such fun altering these Thoroughly Modern File Folders. We made one in the club meeting last week. So I need to do a little tutorial.
Here's the one we made
And the one I made for this Tutorial
Here we go.....First you need to purchase the Thoroughly Modern File Folders (115692, page 169). They are 12 for $10.95. There are three each of 4 different designs.
Here's what they look like before being altered - typical file folder
Here's the file opened
Step 1. Cut off 2 1/4" from the left side
Step 2. Cut off the tab on the right side
Step 3
Cut off the strip along the bottom of the file to make it even
You now have a file folder that looks like this. I used the corner rounder punch (109047, page 186) on the bottom right and upper left corners (the upper right is already corner rounded)
Step 4. Scoring. You need to open up the folder and score 1/2" to the LEFT of the center score line (I have the folder upside down, so my score line, which is hard to see in this picture, is on the right)
Here you can see the score line better
Step 5. Now you need to score 12 1/2" and 13" from the right side - again you can't see it very well, but the lines are there
(Score 12 1/2" and 13" from the right side)
You can see the lines a little better here
Step 6. Turn file folder 90 degrees and score 3 1/8" up from the bottom. I found the best way to do this is turn and score one side and then flip it over and score the other side.
Step 7. Now cut out the lower right corner into the 12 1/2" score line and up to the 3 1/8" score line as in the flower below
Step 8
Fold and crease all score lines - including the bottom
Step 9. Add Sticky Tape to the two outsides and the middle of the score lines as below. Remove sticky tape and adhere. With this step you now have the folder shape
Step 10. Next step is to use the paper-piercing tool and pad and make a hole in the right side at the 4" mark (measures 8" - so half-way)
Step 11. Add a flower brad (112579, page 179) in the hole just pierced
Step 12. Next open up and apply sticky velcro closure over the back of the brad - both pieces and then close and adhere the velcro to both sides
Step 13. Next step is to decorate the 8" x 5" Jr. File Folder. Cut a piece of matching Thoroughly Modern Designer Series Paper 5" x 2 1/2". I used the new Scallop Trim Border punch that is FREE with a $50 order from now until March 31st in the Sale-A-Bration catalog (page 9). Adhere to top of pad with snail
Add your Jr. Legal pad to the folder and I also added a "matching" butterfly on the left side
Step 14. Stamp on Whisper White Cardstock whatever sentiment you want. I used "Follow Your Heart - It Knows the Way" from Whimsical Words - also in the Sale-A-Bration catalog (page 8) and free with a $50 order. As you can see I'm using the NEW Clear Mount Stamps with the new Clear Mount Blocks (page 6, Occasions Mini Catalog 2010). I also cut a scallop circle from Bermuda Bay card stock. I then mounted these on a large flower from the Pretties Kit (109114, page 178). I attached this embellishment to the front with Mini Glue Dots (103683, page 192)
And here's the finished product
