Technique Tuesday "U" & "V"

I had quite a time figuring out "U" and "V".  But I came up with some fun items.

For "U" we used the Uni-ball Signo Gel Pen.  This pen is SO fun to use and adds such a wonderful addition to your creations.  I had some older pens and they wouldn't work very good.  So I asked on SUDOL for some tips on priming them.  One that worked for me was to "flick" the tip of the pen with your fingernail.  That worked great.  Another good idea was to take the refill out and take a small straw and blow into the refill.  Another idea is to store the pens with the tips up.  All great tips to make these pens last longer!!

For "V" we used Vellum.  Stampin' Up sells two types of Vellum.  One is Paper (101839, page 156) and the other is Card Stock (101856, page 156).

I also made a sour cream container with the cardstock Vellum - I embossed the hearts from the Love You Much Stamp Set with Red Craft Ink.  I already gave it away at our club meeting, but embossing  works very well with the card stock Vellum.

One other idea I've read for using Card Stock Vellum.  If you own the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig and have lost the acrylic to stamp on, you can use card stock Vellum instead.  If you have questions, just let me know

Summer by the Sea

I'm still working on some retiring sets.  Today I got out the Summer by the Sea.  This set has been on the dormant list since the new catalog came out and so it was fun to work with it.  Sometime back I saw someone use the bleaching technique, so I had to try it again. 

 

Stamp Seta:   Summer by the Sea, Elegant Cheer

Ink:  Basic Black, Versa Mark, Black Embossing Powder, Bleach

Embellishments:  Black Gingham Ribbon (104832, page 187), Aqua Painter (103954, page 193)

Technique:  Bleaching and Windows

For this card, I stamped the little girl with versa mark and then embossed with black embossing powder.  I then used an Aqua Painter with bleach.  After letting that dry, I added the "wndow" effect.

To make the window I found a blog that explained it really well.  Can I find it again?  No.  So I will try to explain it here.  I used my 1 1/4" square punch and punched out 4 squares from post-it sticky notes.  I did two per sheet, so all 4 would have some sticky on them.  I then laid them on a 3" x 3" square piece of basic black cardstock - spaced them evenly and cut them out again with my 1 1/4" punch.  Worked great - thanks to whoever thought of that!!

Triangle Fold Medallion

I found this fantastic technique on Splitcoast Stampers and just had to take time out to learn how to do it.  At first it was a mystery, but, as the author said, it was a snap after trying it out!!  You can find the directions here, and the gallery of examples here.  Since the tutorial is on SCS, I won't do one, but if you have any questions, please email me!!  You actually cut 8 - 2" squares, fold them and then put them together.  Easy, eh?

Pretty Peony

I'm so happy to have finally broken out this wonderful stamp set.  It's much prettier made up than sitting in the box :)

This set is a two-step stamping set.  It's fun and challenging to get the stamps aligned just right.  I didn't do too bad - should have used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, but I was too lazy to find it tonight.  Actually I like the "off center" look!!

I'm afraid this is one of my all-time favorite cards.  Simple layout, but the colors really make it elegant (no pun intended).  The picture surely doesn't do it justice.  I need to set up a good place to take pictures - will try it again tomorrow and see if I can get a better picture!!

Crab and Company

Crab and Company is one of the sets that is retiring.  This is such a cute set and is so versatile.

I love Mr. Crab's different hats - they are so cute and good for so many occasions.  I used my  blender pen to color him.  The Stazon ink pads are especially good if you want to use watercoloring techniques.

Can you believe we have a New Year?  I hope it's the best year for everyone!!

Over the next few days I want to highlight some of the retiring sets.  I'm going to start with

Take Three (107133, page 56)  This is a set of six and sells for $17.95.  A sweet little set that makes cards really fast as the sentiments and the decorations are all together!!  Very nice.

I made this set of 4 cards with a Mini Pizza Box using Georgia Peach Designer Paper.  Loves these little sets - they make wonderful gifts!
