Recessed Window Card

I loved the tutorial on Split Coast Stampers for the Recessed Window Card.  Here's one I made earlier as a demo for the club meeting in February.  My son and his fiance had their engagement pictures taken and the photographer, Levi Lundy, who was a classmate of Sam's did a superb job.  One picture he took was Sam's wedding ring taken on Sam's grandmother's Bible.  The ring's shadow is a perfect heart.

St. Patrick's Day Cards Heart Treat Cups

Pretty soon St. Patrick's Day will be here and it's always fun to share some green cards.

Here's one I saw that Robbin Messenheimer made.  I didn't have exactly what she used, so I made do with what I had.

Tri-Shutter Mini Scrapbook Album

The Tri Shutter card is so popular and after making one you will agree they are beautiful AND easy to make.  Right?

After seeing some samples on the internet of some folks who make their tri shutter card into a mini album, I decided to research it and came up with one today. 

With wedding plans in the near future for my son and his fiance, that's a lot on my mind, so I decided to make a mini wedding album.

Normally a tri shutter card starts with a sheet of card stock 12" x 5 1/2".  Since I wanted to be able to add 4 x 6 pictures, I found a mini tutorial and went by her directions.  Her blog is My Love, My Heart, My Art.

Directions:

Start with a 12" x 12"sheet of White Textured Cardstock.  Cut it in half.  Make each one into a tri shutter fold card by scoring at 2", 4", 8" and 10".  Cut 1 1/2" in on the long edge between the 2" and 10" score line.  (See instructions on SCS for cutting and folding your tri shutter card)

When you fold your tri shutter card, follow the directions on SCS for the left side of the album and then reverse the folds for the right side of the album.  

Now lay out your two cards side by side and butt up the edges together.  Cut a piece of card stock in either matching or designer paper 4" x 6" and adhere it over the two edges that are together.  I also cut another piece of card stock and covered up the back of the two pieces, so it would be stronger.  Here's the two carads ready to be adhered together.

Butt up the edges

Apply adhesive

Add your 4" x 6" piece of designer paper over these two pieces

Turn over and do the same on the back - this makes it more durable.

Now cut two pieces of card stock 6" x 6".  Score each one at 2"

Add these pieces to the left and right sides - as below. These will fold over and be the fronts of your album

For the top album I used Whisper White Textured Card Stock with Bride Speciality Paper (115669, page 158).  I used the scallop edge punch inside for the top and bottom and added some flowers and half pearls from the Pretties Kit (109114, page 178)

For the bottom I used Very Vanilla Textured Card Stock and Bridesmaid Speciality Paper (116479, page 158)

Bringing out the Crimper Again

I have rediscovered this neat tool and am really enjoying it.  Have you seen all the beautiful new way to add flower to your creations.  Here's one we tried at our club meeting last night

I embossed the front of the Melon Mambo base and also the Whisper White with the embossing folders.  I then used the scallop trim border for the crushed curry .  I used the Big Shot to cut a 1 3/8" circle from the Sticky Pages.  These are extremely sticky - be warned.  I cut two strips of Razzleberry Lemonade DSP 1" x 12" - used the Eyelet Border punch on each one and then ran them both through the crimper.  This breaks down the fibers in the paper.  I then folded in the end slightly (1/4") to not have any raw edges and started crimping this piece and pleating it around the edge of the sticky tape circle (about 1/4" in)  When I ran out of the first piece, I started up with the second piece and pleating as I went I ran it clear around until I came to the center.  I will show a picture soon!!  A cool technique which gives you a beautiful flower.  After finishing that, I added the 3/4" circle of Melon Mambo and made a hole in the center with the paper piercing tool.  I then threaded the brad through - tore off the second sticky side - flattened the brad and adhered it to the card (really sticks!!)

I will try to do a little tutorial tomorrow and add it to this post for those members who couldn't attend th eclub meeting!!

Stampin' Up Big Shot Flower Folds Die Fabric Brooches and Barrettes

I decided I had to get some of these wonderful brooches and barrettes made.  They are SO popular right now.  I had picked up some fabric recently and it was still sitting in it's bag on my craft room floor.  So today was the day!!

These are FUN and they turn out so beautifully!!  They are made using the Stampin' Up Exclusive Flower Folds Die (115970, page 201).

I ended up mostly using all the same fabric - I'll have to check into getting some other types of fabric with more varieties of colors, but for now here's my latest!

 

Since I do not like to sew, I used the hot glue gun and only had a couple of burnt fingers.  No really  - but yo DO have to be very careful not to touch the glue gun!!

I really like this one - it is a large striped material, so I was able to use different parts and come out with a totally different one

This definitely has a story.  I bought a new skirt and it was too long, so my sister helped me shorten it.  I also bought a matching sweater - I used the fabric from the skirt along with some black and red and now I have a matching brooch!!  I'm thrilled

The next two are made from the same fabric - the first is a brooch

And this one is a barrette - I actually left off the biggest flowers and made it a bit smaller for my grandaughter

Here's now I attached the barrette on the back - I cut a circle from the Circle #2 Die (114526, page 202) and hot glued it to the back of the flower.  And then hot glued the barrette on that.

And how I attached the brooch pins.  I again cut a circle (next to the largest) from the Circles #2 die.  I put two little slits in the fabric and ran the brooch pin through those slits and then hot glued it all to the back of the brooch!  The pin doesn't show and it looks finished on the back too!

These were all done with the hot glue gun.  I didn't even have the sewing machine out.

Card Organizer

Do you have trouble keeping up with cards for your friends and family like I do?  I try to be organized, but...well, needless to say it's hard. 

Thanks to Cynthia Stevenson for sharing the instructions here's a cute card organizer - could also be a recipe box, address box, you name it and it could come in handy anywhere!!

Valentine's Day Candy Box

We have all received and given beautiful candy boxes for Valentine's Day.  I have seen some being made on the internet, and it really intimidated me, but I forged forward and made one {BIG GRIN} 

Can you believe it - a real candy box - and it's filled with chocolate kisses - yummm

Thanks to Cindee, Carla and Olive for the directions - I'll share a little bit here

I covered two of the On Board Heart Book pieces (117235, page 34 2010 Occasions Mini) with Sending Love Designer Series Speciality Paper (117153, page 13 2010 Occasions Mini).  I used Stampin' Up's Glue Stick which worked very well (104045, page 192).  I used one sheet of the dsp and was able to get 4 valentine's out of one page.  I just drew around the on board piece and then cut it out with scissors.  After applying the glue and letting it sit for a few minutes to dry somewhat, I used the sanding blocks(103301, page 188) to sand the edges and make them even (after trimming them a bit with scissors).  I covered both sides of each valentine with the dsp.

I then cut two strips of Pretty in Pink card stock 1 1/4" x 11".  I scored it at 1/4", folded and then added sticky strip (104294, page 192) to the 1/4".   Then I started sticking it down around the edge of the top heart along the edge - when it came to the curved part, I cut out little "v's" to help it curve.  I did this clear up around the top and down to the point - there was about 1 1/2" left over when I left unstuck and then did the other side.  When I arrived at the top again from the other side, I clipped off that side even with the point and then clipped off just enough of the first side to fold around the last side and stuck them together with sticky tape.  Did the same with the bottom point.

For the bottom piece I cut the two strips 1 1/4" x 11" and scored at 1/4", then sticky tape - I adhered that piece about 1/8" inside, so that the top fits over the bottom.

And that's about it!!  I added the lacey flowers, thanks to a nice tutorial from Olive and also from Kimberly Van Diepen.  I also added a punched out flower with the Extra Large Fancy Punch (118073, page 13 2010 Occasions Mini), and the sweet little real red corduroy buttons (117268, page 13 2010 Occasions Mini).  I'll probably add and tag once I decide who gets this little creation!!

Valentine's Card with Heart Treat Cups

Here's one more quick Valentine's Day card made with the treat cup.  I figure this one will be for the kids and they won't care about the card, so they'll rip it open to get to the candy :)
